Hello! i have a small Bellows part that needs to be re worked. The part is passivated and can not get any oil or liquid on the body of the piece. about 90% of the part. The tip is the only part that is going to be re worked with precision grinding. I need to find a way to cover body so that it does not get fluids on it. Would anyone have any suggestions?
Than you!

Grind it, then re-passivate it
Hey Steven, thank you for your advise sir. much appreciated
Thinking of rework you may only be removing a minimum of metal can you grind it dry.
The Dia. of the tip is .045, going down to .025. It is so small grinding it dry may break the tip. the part is fully welded so taking it apart is a no go. We will have to get creative with some fluid resistant tape or something along those lines. thank you
the passivation process was probably added to protect the surface (I am assuming SS) from corroding. It is a micro layer of protection so the tip you are grinding will no longer have a passivated surface. I do not see any reason the untouched surfaces will be affected since you are removing any surface layers. A good cleaning process to remove any oils followed by several clean rinses should work. Ultrasonic cleaner would clean the part sufficiently to remove oils… Regardless reducing or changing the tip, you lose protection on the new surface. We used a citric acid process for titanium implants and SS surgical instruments. Citric Acid Passivation for Stainless Steel | CitriSurf 2250 | CitriSurf 2050
