Good day, my fellow machinists!
My name is Chris, and have been within the machining vocation (manual and automated/CNC) since my freshman year of high school. I have earned various certifications, as well as my specific Associates of Applied Sciences in Machine Tool Technology, and then went on to receive my undergraduate, and graduate degrees in Vocational Education/Career Technical Education with the machine tool technology vocation as my trade. I have taught for 18 years, middle school through graduate level (600), and currently teach distant learning (online) education theory, and assessment courses (and also achieved my Doctorate in Education). It has been a journey for me to work eight-plus hours a day within a typical job-shop, and then put on a suit to teach… and say I am a machinist.
First, this is the best online environment to learn (anything) that I have seen within the online distant learning realm! It is excellent with appropriate content, resources, videos, and this forum. My advice is to take all that is shared. I use this content daily to teach students problem solving for either FIRST Robotics, and also the SAE Baja Challenge (Go Jays!). The example projects are extremely similar to those that may be designed within the real-world! Kudos to Titan, and his staff for creating such a resource. Gather as much as possible, and also ask (learn the ‘tricks’ of the trade). I learn within my shop daily, as well as gotten some good stuff from this site!
Again, I am located in Baltimore… and work in a very small job shop that makes all kinds of crazy pieces for various clients on the East coast. Reach out to cfox16@jh.edu if you would like to get in touch!
Good luck to you all, and don’t be intimidated to eat metal!
