Best way to get started in CNC?

Thoughts? Some kind of bootcamp, a college type program? I see there are some 300 and 600 hour programs - I assume you can’t go wrong with most of these? Also, I’m a veteran so maybe there are some specific programs you know about?

Thanks !!

If you are not working, check out some local community colleges or CareerTech centers. Home | Advance CTE (careertech.org)

Eric,

Since you are a veteran, you have two great choices:

  1. A program that my family heavily contributes to every year: Workshops for Warriors www.wfw.org. They are the real deal. It’s a competitive program, so get in contact with them right away if you like what you see on the website.

  2. Titans of CNC Academy. Everything you need to learn is in the Titans of CNC Academy curriculum. You need to be motivated to do the work yourself. Nobody is going to put the work into your head except you. Academy Small Groups and the Titans of CNC team are there to answer your questions along the way. Download the software(s), watch the videos - take lots of notes, join an Academy Small Group (ASG) and make your parts. Joining an ASG is critical, you must get that hands-on experience because half of the learning is dealing with the machines, the tooling, the setups, machine-specific programming details, and all the mistakes you’ll make along the way. And you will make mistakes - nobody’s perfect - learn from them. If you follow the Titans of CNC ways of doing things, you’ll avoid very costly mistakes. Good luck. You can reach me with questions at wayne@theschoolofshop.com.
