I’ve recently been given the task to machine ceramics for the aerospace industry. I am looking for any and all tips, tricks, machine recommendations, tooling, and anything I’m missing. I’ve had some recent success grinding the ceramic (ltcc and *cermic 2 is the other one that call around the building). I am extremely new to the ceramic world and seems to be the move in the future for more ceramic work in our shop.
I’ve been given free rein on how to attack this task and but with my lack of knowledge on the material I need help!
Currently I’m issuing a haas vm2 and a cm1 to machine the ceramic. It works but i know these aren’t the best machines for ceramic work. So again any knowledge that anyone would care to share on machining this stuff would be greatly appreciated. And I will share any and all info I currently have.
Working with the engineers and former retired machinist, this seems to be very scarce in knowledge and or the ones who know about machining the stuff are very hush hush.
