Hi everyone, my name is Ramon, i’m 18, studying Industrial Engineering and have great interest in everything cnc. I’m a self taught SolidWorks/HSMWorks user with 2 years of experience with the software. My university has a Doosan DNM 5700 with a ton of nice tools but the teachers are only using it for making manual mill fixtures and very basic parts for student projects. They aren’t offering any cnc courses. No small groups in my country so I don’t have a lot of options. Any of you who have been in a similar situation? How do I convince my teachers to let me learn and use the machine and make some big chips?
Welcome,
It’s probably not going to be easy, but keep asking them about it. Tell them you want to broaden your education, and become a better Engineer by understanding the Machining aspect of the industry. That way you will know how parts are really made. What you can physical do in real life not on a computer screen. I would say if they were understandable they might fold in quick. The only thing that might stop you is your School having some Legal Paperwork for Insurance Policy not letting students touch the machine. Then you would have to appeal with the School, and tell them the same thing about furthering your Education to its max potential.
Show them the building block curriculum. That should be of great interest to an educator.
Welcome to the group this is a great place to learn.
A question how new to this school is this CNC world?
The teaching staff may not know much about CNC if they themselves are new.
Hey guys, I asked my teacher and it turns out they do have a cnc course for mechanical engineering students only but he said I could join them during the course because of my software experience. Only 2nd year students have permission to use the Doosan after they finish the course so my only option is to wait until next year and keep working on my programming.
Congratulations Ramon that is great!
Congrats and make sure to take full advantage of your time with the machine.
