After gathering these numbers, divide them by the estimated number of hours the machine will operate over the next 5 years (akin to gazing into a crystal ball). This calculation gives you your base machine cost.
Moreover, take into consideration the physical space the machine occupies. Include a portion of your electric bill as part of the machine cost.
From this point, your approach to calculating costs for quoting and charging can vary. You may also want to incorporate expenses like tooling, an appropriate amount to cover programming and programming equipment, materials, setup time, and run time. Additionally, you’ll need to calculate the true cost of an employee to operate the machine. I personally calculate this cost as 1.81 times the employee’s salary, but it can fluctuate based on factors such as benefits and more.
