Machining Castings

When working with castings that I don’t have a drawing for, i am working up a new drawing in Fusion360. Am I best using a datum within the finished part for example a tapped hole and taking all my measurements from that, or should I use an outside point of the rough casting? My issue is that there is likely to be discrepancies in the castings so using the casting could be a problem. The part I am making does not require high tolerances. Router Plane You can see a picture via that link of teh finished tool I am making. Can we have some more tips on getting a high quality finish direct from face milling and or burnishing.
Thanks

It looks as if you could use center line of the part and Dimension the rest of it from there. You can get a nice fnish with a face mill.

Depending on your face mill, you can get a wiper insert. You simply replace one of the inserts with the wiper. This should give you a better finish.

Thanks for that, I think i saw one of Titans videos where he uses a wiper to help get a perfect finish.

If you decide to go this route I forgot to say make sure to indicate the pocets of your facemill. My rep says they always have one that is slightly lower to allow for the use of wipers.
