Mobile Workstation

Hi the time has come for an upgrade, I’m looking for a new high spec laptop that will mainly be used for CAD/CAM at home. I’m in the UK and have a budget between £2000 and £4000. Any suggestions or advice welcomed.

Looking at this type of thing at the moment https://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/configurator/4k-video-editing-laptop-with-thunderbolt

I took a look at the specs you posted and that’s a great laptop overall. I’d probably bump up the RAM from 16GB to 32GB if you can afford it. May seem overkill today but will make sense in a year. It also seems like a small bump to make out the CPU while you are at it. Lastly, if you can afford to increase the SSD size that never hurts. It really comes down to your budget but I think those options fit your range and will make for a computer that lasts for a while.

Best wishes,

Hi @TrevorStudley I am a professional working in the UK and train in Fusion and HSM and this is the speck all of our Applications Engineers run with.

Most CAD/CAM work runs seamlessly but i would also suggest upping the RAM if you are looking to do large part count assemblies. If you need help buying a PC in the UK you can contact a company called Elmtec which is where we buy all of our hardware from.

That’s great thanks for that, how long do the engineers run these machines ? Is 5 years reasonable?
