Really could use some help on surface finish and reduce run time

@MitchDomina Its hard to see the actual shape of the part but you might be able to use a form tool like a corner rounding tool.

Get hold of AB tools they will make a tool for you to do it, or use a ogee shaped cutter

Thanks.

I was hoping I’d be able to upload my model so people could see it better.

Machine time oin this part is over an hour.

It’s only 2.5" x 6" by 1" deep.

I’m using a 3/8 flat endmil to 3d adapt clear the inside and out.

Then using a 3/8 ball end mill and a parallel tool path to do the large outside filetted lip. This operation is 80% of my run time. I’m doing it in 2 passes. First one is with a 0.020" step over. The second pass is with a 0.005" step over. I need a very smooth surface finish. Feed rates are 30in/min

Any help would be AMAZING!

Thanks guys!

To be honest I’d get a radius cutter made to cut the outside radius you will get done much faster and with a better finish than stitching. And perhaps cut half hour out of your program which should justify the cost of the tool.

How much rpm with that 30ipm feed rate? Can you go to a 4 flute adding flutes adds a lot to the rate you feed at.

if this file is in fusion 360 you can share the url and we would be able to look at it.

It looks like you could cut down the time by just using FLOW. I think you can also join the 2 Adaptive paths http://a360.co/2C8flKs
