Search for Fusion 360 Postprocessor for DMG Mori DMU 50 with Siemens 840d

Hi Folks,

we just get our DMU 50 and now we want to go through the academy projects, especially CAM the parts.
There is a Siemens 840d Postprocessor in the library that seems to work but with some need for adjustments (mostly home positions and some missing entries in the Cycle 800 parameters).
Did anyone modify the Siemens 840d Post for the DMU50 yet? Titan has the same machine in his shop and runs the samples on that machine and it seems he has the same control… Maybe there is an already modified post around?
We would be also glad about some tips to adjust the settings by ourselves…

best regards and a happy New Year to all!

Richard

Fusion 360 for 5 axis Programming:

I would take a long hard look at this before just accepting some post off a message board. If you have the latest DMU50 3rd gen machine that TItan has, that’s over $300k-$500k investment (I have 2 of them and they are amazing). Are you really planning on programming and running that machine on Fusion?

ANf FYI…The 1st/2nd Gen machines are NOTHING like the 3rd gen machines. DO NOT TRY a post from the fisrt Gen on the 3rd Gen machine.

You need to get a dedicated post for your machine. DEDICATED…It’s not worth all the hassle and risk of a crash because you dont have the right post for your cam system. Yes, you pay a few $ to get the post but it’s dedicated to the kinematics of your EXACT machine and you have techs standing by to modify your post to your liking for the first year usually for no charge. Figure a post if $2k…This is small $$ compared to the machine and lost time ooking for a freebe that might or might not be right.

We went with a postabiity Post and probabaly had to modify the post slightly on the next 10-20 jobs to get it to work exactly the way our programmer wanted it to run.

This is cut and paste from the Autodesk forum.

Re: DMG DMU 50 Siemens 840D Post

Thanks for raising your concern via Forum.

There is no specific Milling post for ‘DMG DMU 50’ with Siemens controller in HSM post library.

I think Siemens SINUMERIK 840D post in HSM library would be reasonably close to your machine NC program. You can download the same in below link:

Hope this helps.

Dear Tracy,

you’re right, we should looking for a dedicated post for the Machine. The risk of a malfunction is too great. I think Fusion 360 is not a bad CAM system for the beginning. Of course, Mastercam, Hypermill or Esprit are much more powerful, but for the next time, we are only in 3+2 work and sharpen our skills.
If it comes to simultaneous machining, we will take a look at the next step…

Many thanks for sharing your point of view!

best regards from Germany

Richard

The majority of most work we see is 3+2 or positional. We use mastercam 2020 with multi-axis when needed. Having a good post is needed regardless.

Did you buy a new machine?

Dear Tracy,

yes, our machine is brand new! I’ve contacted a company wich is programming dedicated postprocessors. They will make an offer the next days. Struggling through problems after problems will cost both more money and nerves… How old are your DMU 50’s? Did you already have any issues with them?

Our machines are 2018 and 2019.

There are fantastic machines. No issues.
