Good evening everyone,
What is the best practice for setting the zero in a CAM program? I have always began with the stock box point then move the zero as I remove metal. is that the best way? I was talking with someone and he told me that he sets the zero to the print for the part to begin with and never move it. Is that a good way to do it?
Whenever an operator is running a machine and looking at the numbers. If you program zero to be the top of the part they can very easily tell by the numbers on the control where they are at. if they have to keep in mind and compensate for stock it could make it more difficult.
I never thought of it that way. Makes total sense. Not only am I doing more work moving the zero but I’m confusing the operator.
You got the right idea if the part has two different Z levels operator can very easily tell where it’s at and not have to compensate for Z level above the top part plane.
Thank you for your help!!!
This is the way Titan teaches to program also.
It’s realy important to keep everything constant with your setups, the guys I do cam for it’s all ways the same on every part, less chances of a mistake.
Thank you!!! Makes total sense!! I will keep it simple from here on. Don’t need broken tools.
