Academy project M1-M10 solid models for download

Hello Forum users,

Im new to the academy and just getting started working though the projects in my spare time. I already
own solidworks2015 and camworks2015 and have posts for my machine in those tools. So I wont be using the fusion software. I wish these tools had been available before I purchased the Solidworks/camworks tools as a hobbyist those were crazy expensive. As Im getting started on the first project the M1, Im noticing there are no solid models available for download. The only thing I can download is the pdf drawing of the part. I think on the M2 I noticed the same thing but on the M3 I thought I saw a download option. Is this intentional or do those models just need to be turned on to make them available for download. Basically Im looking for preferably solidworks drawings but would be happy with Iges or steps as well.

As far as a would like to have video would be talking about truing up stock. The stock material the projects all start with is 2x0.75 bar stock. I dont have that kind of material laying around for use, but I have a lot of larger blocks I can cut down. A nice starting video for the educational series(which may already exist in here some where) would be one showing the procedure to square up a cut block that you dont have any guarantee of squareness on. When you get a block the top and bottom maybe parallel, but the sides may not be at right angles to the parallel faces. So a video showing the procedure to square a block so that it could then be used on these projects would be nice.

Thank for the help!
Matt

The Building Blocks don’t have downloadable solid models, as they are meant for teaching the CAD side of things as well. The curriculum is designed for teaching the whole process, not just the CAM side of it.

When it comes to stock size the Titan team made the first 10 parts M1 through 10 standardized with a 1 inch thick by 2 inch wide piece of material. They also used what is referred to as the top hat method which makes the part extremely accurate. By all means you can use a larger piece of stock. I personally do not believe that this curriculum is design to create Tool Makers and Master Machinist upon finishing it. It is designed to cover a lot of the basics so an individual can go to the field and have a lot of usable experience.

Thank you Shawn. I was thinking that might be the case but wanted to ask to be sure. They are pretty simple parts so they wont take long to model.

Hi Rumpelstiltskin,

So tophat method. Ok, I think I understand the idea there. As long as I have a a bottom that is flat that I can put on my parallels, and have parallel wall so that I get even pressure from the vise I should be good to go.

Thanks
Matt
