Downloading CADs

I have tried to download parts to work on from the site but it no longer gives me the option. Can you guys fix that so that I can download the models? I am teaching a cmm class and would like to use your models to teach the class.

The more complex models. Particularly the 78 Model.

Yes. Those didn’t work for me.

The one I wanted was 78M. I have the print for the part but was unable to download the model. I was able to view the model.

I have attached a file with the snippet of the model in question. As you can see in the snip, there isn’t a tab that you can click on to download the model.

I saw a post saying on some they do not let you download because you should be able to make it.

I had posted that I do not let my students download the models. Part of the lesson is for them to create the solid model. I do not know if this is the reason the models are no longer downloadable on the academy website.

That could be the reason.

Well, how would I get these models so that I can train the guys? All I want is the model and the prints so that I can teach them how to program off-line using PC-DMIS. It would be a big help if I can get them. They are difficult enough to teach them about the different alignments, tip selection and the use of the other parameters to reduce collisions. Thank you in advance.

A word of caution, if I was quoting on a job, I would be specific in my quote if I was working from the model or the print. I have experienced in past work where the model does not match the print. It was always nice to get the model, but I learned the hard way to check the model to see if it matched the print. Especially since the quote was based on the print they provided. Just sayin’

This is an interesting question - even though I have 30+ years CNC experience - I am not a good design guy - especially in solid modeling. Most shops were worked in had to use other peoples drawings ( so we used wire frame to design in Cam) or we imported a design. So to learn just Cam should be for everyone one.

Should you learn to design ? for sure - we need to build fixtures - make our own “government job” parts etc.

I think to teach a basic cam only could be a good step - so to have a downloadable model I think is good -

So you can have your CNC guys design if not available for your own library -especially if you want to measure parts they made and designed - that should be downloadable
