Aquatic Technician seeking for a career shift in machining and manufacturing

Hello academy

Wisdom, health and luck to you and your family.

My name is Fotis, i am from Greece, Thessaloniki. I am 29

I am a aquatic biologist. But manufacturing was and is what i always found myself doing end been exited with, since i was a toddler.

We humans whatever we do or don’t, it always comes down to manufacturing. So i invested all my savings from my last summer job in CNC Turning & Milling seminars. I didn’t spend it in drinks and laughs or a new fancy cell phone . I left my hometown Thessaloniki and went to Athens for 2 months, paying everything.

So here i am!

The teachers told as we were one of the best classes they had for the last 2 years. I was one of the best. So one of the managers suggested me in some industries in Cyprus and Thessaloniki. I send them my resume. And nothing happened.

After that I took the money, time and effort to improve my resume with a consultant.

Now i am unemployed. With no money and no options. Its been 3 months since i completed the seminars. And all i got was a proposal as a salesman in cutting tools. Touring all northern Greece in a car witch i don’t have.
I need to pay my bills.

I need to work on it to establish a good foundation end gain the much needed working experience.

But i find it hard, to find a job in CNC machining here in Greece. The trend is, they mostly prefer people with, mechanologial degrees. When most of them don’t have the understanding, mindset for machining, maching processes and phases or problem solving. Because they had never build or fixed anything! Butt ironically they are willing to train them in job…

In most job descriptions they require at least 1-2 years of experience.
How am i going to gain experience when no one gives me a chance.

How we are going to bring manufacturing back in Greece when we don’t give new people a fighting chance.

How can i convince those people to give me a chance? To prove my self and learn.

What else i need to do?
What do i need to learn?
What should be my next step?

It never ceases to amaze me how some companies will not train people up in the manufacturing industry. I encourage you to keep your chin up and keep looking. I encourage you to go back to some of the folks that you have already inquired about employment. And then go back again and again and again. Be persistent but kind also and respectful you’ll be surprised how just showing up once a week to ask about employment can show those powers that will that you are truly interested in learning the trade I want to become a value to their company.
Again I hope the best for you your endeavor keep us posted.

Thanks for the answer mate. It means a lot. Straitfull and sincere.

The only other next best answer i got from the academy FB group. Was to go to work for the season in a tourist resort as a barman.
So i can buy a car.

Next week i start again as a sales assistant in a local home improvement store. I warn them ,that as soon as i find a job in CNC i am out of there.

No problem they said ! Thats how private employment works…

Maybe i will invest some money in industrial designing courses and books…

It helps a lot to learn design for engineering and manufacture this can give you a chin up as you can say why something will work or not for the end user or machinicest and it leads into being an application engineer, what everyone should be pushing for.

You might ask the instructors that taught you the machining courses to personally introduce you to a company’s manager. Surely they have some former student that is working or they know someone personally that has input to hiring people at that company.
