Hey I’m starting completely from square one here so flame me if this is very obvious;
I have a Haas VF2 BT40 taper
Looking at the building block series and the Kenna Metal tool kit for it -
heres the link to the kit for details: Kenna metal tool kit
What tool holders should I get that will work for this series, and also be of use in the future.
Is common practice ER holders of the appropriate size, and shell mill holder? or are the Weldon types better? drill chuck?
like I said I’m outfitting a new to me Haas from 2007 for our shop and have 0 tooling thus far. But would also like to buy useful holders that we can use down the road ( not an unlimited budget)

do you have trough spindle coolant ?
Nope I do not. I have most other options though
Shrink fit holders are best. I used the ER system for school and it all worked out well for me. You will need a couple of tap collets, I used the quick change collets. I would not recommend the Weldon type holder. The hydraulic collet systems are favored with a lot of users… Again, for school and my students, ER worked just fine.
Hello @MattDiederichs a lot depends on your budget and the type of work you are planing on doing. I know how expensive it can get buying tool holders. I would look into buying a set of holders to get you started one with the right pull studs and all it ueualy saves you money to get them as a set.
Thanks for the help, can you recommend a mid range brand name that sells them with the pull studs as a set like you mentioned?
@dppmfg Ha Daniel What is the brand of holders you showed me that you have will you share it here Please?
@MattDiederichs here is a link to something that might get you started https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F222384570691
You would need to validate that everything is correct and matches your machine. This would be a good starter set possibly. I’m not sure if the shell Mill holder would match up to the one in Titan kit. I know that @dppmfg Daniel buys sets from eBay and uses them in all of his machines speaks very highly of them. I hope he chimes in.
