Total cnc/cad/cam newbie here.
I’m in the process of going through the Titan part M1 tutorial video and designing the part on fusion at the same time and my fusion doesn’t coincide with what Titan is doing in the video. When I’m in sketch and use the “center diameter circle” and try to place the circle over any of the holes it doesn’t automatically center like it does for Titan. Instead it centers the circle wherever I place the curser and click, whether it is centered in the hole or not.
I’m guessing I have a newer version of Fusion? Is there another way of automatically centering circles over holes?
I’ve found other differences as well that are wreaking havoc in beginner brain as well.
Any help greatly appreciated.

There is some differences due to Fusion revision changes in the original tutorials. Regarding placement of holes in a part, I have my students create a sketch and create points, I then have them dimension each point in XY coordinates. When it comes time for them to create a hole or circle that needs to be anchored to a dimension, they can then snap or click on the point to anchor that sketch entity. If you need to re-position holes later , you can edit just that sketch and everything will move with the modified dimensions.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for the response. Placing the holes isn’t so much of an issue, its using sketch “circles” to create the arcs that end up defining the pocket walls on the M1 part that “arc” around the two intermediary/middle holes at the “top” edge of the part. Since you mentioned the revision in fusion looks like I’ll have to get creative while following the video. I’ll try your method as well, it makes sense to create the boundaries first before making the holes. Different direction from the video but hopefully end up in the same spot.
Thanks again for the help,

This is one of the problems with the age of the videos vs a user interface in fusion which is rapidly modified. There would never be any chance of keeping the videos in perfect sync as the fusion team seems to make changes regularly as they follow a software development methodology which prioritizes small tasks for measuring progress. This style of software development doesn’t tend to prioritize trying to maintain a consistent user interface. So, they make a small change here, and a small change there, and by themselves, doesn’t make a large deviation… but when then viewed across larger time frames, the differences can be quite jarring. ESPECIALLY when then compared against tutorials or instructions based on the prior features and steps. This leaves people in the 1M realms with LOTS of questions at times, so it’s not just you. I regularly have to help my small group members with translating the video instructions vs the current state of the user interface. There isn’t really any good solutions to it either, as the team members working on fusion seem to be judged based on what they changed. So even when you end up with features that are otherwise the same, HOW those features are accessed can be very different. There’s not even really a good way to say “OK, use these steps if you are using Fusion version XXXXX and these steps is using version XXXXX.” as the versioning methods aren’t as easily understood either as everything is “Fusion 360” instead of something like version 2.0.6670 (the current version) doesn’t lend itself to understanding when UI changes are made.
End result, you have to more listen to the activity being described, and then find something that is similar enough. The labels change a lot, and some of the ways of how a feature works, but for the most part, the underlying functionality is the same. It might need a little hunting around at times, but hopefully you are able to find what you are stuck on. If you are a member of a small group, that might also assist you as you can contact the group host, or other members of the small group, who also likely performed the same steps you did, so it’s fresh in their minds for how they solved the differences between the video and actions needed to be taken in the current release of fusion.

Thanks for the reply , Matt. You make some excellent points and have reinforced my assumptions once I hit the wall after starting.
The Academy/tutorial concept is great and the quality of the videos is excellent but if the information being presented is flawed and causes undo frustration and wasted hours sitting in front of a screen, randomly clicking icons/elements trying to find a solution to “glitches” due to differing updated programs, then whats the point?
Titan Academy needs to at least warn new comers to the field of cnc/cad/cam about these sort of issues. I may have missed it but maybe a referral to what version Fusion 360 the video is based on for the tutorial would be beneficial along with the warning.
… onward through the digital mud wrestling,

I used to use a Freeware page management program for full colour printing called ‘Scribus’. Everytime the developers issued a new release of the program they included a full listing of new features, deleted features, deleted options and the resulting change in the UI. Those developers were volunteers who were unpaid for their work.
It is amazing a company like Autodesk with their highly paid staff doesn’t provide the same information when they issue the latest update. I myself spent ages looking for the ‘Sketch Workbench’ after the latest upgrade.
I am pretty sure they do but it comes in a message after it updates.

Here is some information on my last update that was installed.
There is a lot to sort threw to see what is new this go around.
Both my IT manager and I have subscribed and get daily notifications of any changes. Since our student computers are locked down, the updates do not take effect unless they are downloaded that day when the student logs on. The update disappears immediately when they shut down, so AutoDesk provided the IT a batch file that we can drop down the lockdown for a few minutes and update ALL of the classroom computers at one time. I find the changes and corrections the AutoDesk team incorporates to be progressive and an excellent VOC (voice of the customer) response. Yes, the videos become dated, but this is an excellent tool for my students. They better understand the process when they are not parrots and only mimicking the videos.
Gentlemen, thanks for adding to the thread. I’ve been away from the computer since last week, hence no reply till now. Had a break through since my last post and things are running more smoothly now.
I had some goofy issues where F360 appeared to be running to slow, glitchy, etc. grid back ground would disappear for no reason( I didn’t change any settings) so I shut everything down for a few hours, came back, started over and things began to work. Don’t know if the fusion cloud was running slow or my end was having issues but life is good and I’m moving forward.
Hopefully be making chips in a few days.
Thanks again for everyone’s help.
