Anybody out there using Mastercam to program your Titan parts? Maybe some videos? I am going to start making some videos teaching my students using Mastercam and will share soon.
I have done a few of the projects in MasterCam, as well as in Inventor. I am also going to do a couple in FeatureCam here soon. I have done this as a case study to see what differences in productivity and efficiency differences I experience. I use the various Titan parts to verify posts for machines.
Even though most of my programming experience is MasterCam, I have found that I am substantially more efficient and productive in the Autodesk Cam products. Even though your using MasterCam in your lessons, I would definitely encourage you to start introducing Autodesk Cam products into it. Fusion 360 and Inventor are both free for both you and your students, and more closely align with the Titans of CNC Academy. Even educationally, the costs for keeping your seats up to date are much more expensive than free. That means you can budget that money into upgrading other aspects of your classroom, whether that be new cutting edge machines, or tooling, or work holding, etc.
Also, these products are becoming more prevalent in industry, and the more diversified your students’ experiences are, the better career options will be available to them. I know this doesn’t answer your post, but just my recommendations!
Thanks, for the reply. I use Mastercam and Solidworks because they are both the leading CAD/CAM softwares in the world today. I have about 25 Industry partners all of which who run Mastercam and Solidworks and I feel it is important for the students to be familiar with what our local industry is using. I personally have been a Mastercam user for over 20 years
The company I work for has just invested in Edgecam. When I have completed the training courses I am going to try out some of the building blocks to see what the difference is as I use fusion at the moment.
I have Edgecam I had a hard time learning it. Their tutorials they had in the book do not follow the current release of software they were made with like 2014, 9 software. Edgecam has some pretty awesome automated systems but it can be difficult at times to get it to Future find what it is you wanted to do.
The training course I am doing are with Edgecam and last 7 days so hopefully learning it will be ok. I’ll let you know when I’ve completed them.
My Training for Edgecam was only 3 days so they went over it very fast. I was getting to be ok with it but paying the big maintenance bill every year did not make any sense. The academy uses Fusion 360 so I switched to it so maybe I could help others. I am small group #5 and because we use Fusion to teach I thought I bedder learn it .
Would love it if you made some videos possibly teaching mastercam. My father uses it for CNC and I’ll always have access to it. Plus because he owns a copy so I won’t have to deal with free trial stuff.
Hello chat group
whats really the difference though
is there any difference in production time
We use master cam and solid works
Many of our members use Mastercam, you can always take their training certifications if you want to learn CAM programming. I teach Fusion 360 and HSMWorks for my students. I have Mastercam available for my students and some have gained a Mill and Lathe certification thru Mastercam. Fusion aka HSMWorks is much easier to teach and my students find it easier to learn when they are mastering the CAD design also in same user interface. http://www.mastercamu.com/index.html
I want to learn from the Sir Master CAM. Thanks
Last year (2017) I did the Titan 1M in MasterCam 2017 so they would have a setup and run job - I put X0Y0 in the center and used the simple Haas probe cycle that gets all 3 axis I one shot - I wanted to have them setup and run a part in the 2nd week of school - I was reluctant to get into Fusion 360 as we are a 11 month class that teaches basic machining and I felt it was tough to have a Cad cam class in there. MasterCam or Fusion. I have had MC in the school since I started 6 years ago - and some of my high flyers (ones who already knew Solid works) where able to use my Cam Instructor Tutorial books to learn MC. we did do a night class in MasterCam only 2 years ago along with FastTrack CNC for industry people who needed more training.
Now this year - I decided to teach Titans Fusion class - I decided to add (2) titan Mill Parts and Hope fully (2) Titan lathe parts. I do see this as a door to teach other cam - and I will do an import of a SW file and have them do (1) MasterCam 2018 Cam project.
I find that MasterCam U needs to be more basic - Cam Instructor or In House Solutions have nice beginner tutorials. I may do my own screen cast in my LMS on basic MasterCam as well. MasterCam is till the dominant player out there. I think once you know one CNC machine or a Cam system its not that hard to learn another. When you get on the job you don’t have a choice of either anyway. So if they Mori seikis and Edgecam there you go .
