MIL-STD-130 Quick Question

I have a drawing here that calls out marking per MIL-STD-130. It goes on to say it needs to be permanent and colored black. It doesn’t specify method. What methods are considered permanent and can be black?

Depends on type of identification you will be using. Are you marking an ID plate, tabs or labels? It must be legible and last the lifetime of the item being marked. Are you identifying with a bar code? Is it going to be human readable or machine readable? Table II in the standard will indicate the different type of marking methods.

It is aluminum, HRI info only, and marking the part itself.

Normally, I would engrave, but it has to be black in color. I am assuming possibly laser marking?

Laser marking definitely seems to be your best option unless you want to coat the part.

It has a chemical film coating already. Do you have any vendors that do this type of laser marking you might recommend?
