I’ve been machinist for over a year. I need to lean how to set up from the shop drawings. What advice or books do you recommend.

It really depends on what machine you are using.
A CNC machine tooling setup would normally be done at the CAM level. So all you would have to do is install the proper tool into the assigned tool position, and zero it to the machine or part.
A manual lathe is a little different. You would choose tools that will reach the work areas that you want to cut with that tool and provide clearance for the areas that you don’t want to cut with that particular tool.
