Titan 9M Soft Jaw

OK… Really quick question. I plan to machine the soft jaws for the Titan 9M as shown in the link below. The shallowest part of the soft jaw is grabbing on to the model by .230. I can’ t go much lower without hitting the soft jaw bolts. Is .230 enough to safely hold a part?

Yes, the .230 engagement is sufficient, I would still recommend facing with multiple depths, no need to remove the entire .230+ remnant in one pass. My practice in class has been about .075" depth of cut per pass.

Thanks Stephen. Yes, I too have been making .050 or .070 passes. I also used a 2D contour to remove the excess remnant before facing.

As always… Thanks for your help & quick response… Richard

@RichardSalzman The shape of the 9M was wide enough that it only required a facing operation and a chamfer operation. It was not necessary to use contour to remove any remnant edges. I did not have any chunks fly off when facing with a facing mill…

Thanks Steve. I have not machined this part yet. Thanks for your help.
