Read this link first and report here if you want to know more…

This is the language that was first. If you know this you will understand all and i really mean ALL cnc. I learned this and programmed complex multiaxis in the early 1970’s Nothing new today but much more productive, this was torture to program, but we went to the moon with it… Actually i learned this language before even knowing what gcode was. learn CNC pathing not Gcode, I have programs with 30,000 lines all computer generated. toss the adding machine. go CAD CNC.

Yep, programming on my Unix computer using Compact II software. B/W monitor. Seems like ages ago. Had a tape punch, some of my reels would be 10" diameter.

History, how many ever ran major structures on a 1" analog ampex machine driving a huge floor level plank mill with banks of vacuum tubes, to .0002 accuracy, two speed spindle 1800, 3600rpm, 2" cutters. Developed during the 1950’s
i got to run APT code program ( imagine pencils ) in 1969, perfect part first time. 6 hours machine time. 55 minutes per reel .
could not “hold or adjust feed” it only had Go and eStop.
This CNC new stuff is just really fun with the “new” machine s and software.
Keep on learning, no machinist knows everything…
