Hello from TEXAS

My name is Travis, 25 yrs old. I’ve been in a machine shop going on 6 years. Started cleaning the toilets, went onto deburr, and for the last 3 years I’ve been primarily running a conversational machine “hurco” to be exact. I’ve got to flirt with a couple manual mills and lathes. And I’ve been a button pusher on a Cnc lathe for a couple months before they let me start playing with the mills. I’ve grown pretty confident in what I do… The only problem is… That’s all I do. You give me a print I can make the part, only if I’m on my hurco. I know there is so much more to learn in the machine world. I’m just here to try and further my knowledge and career.

Welcome Travis!

This is a great place to start learning! There are so many great resources out there, between this and other forums, YouTube, and Instagram, and many other resources. Also, the various individuals in this industry are a huge resource. If there is an Academy group near you, definitely get involved there!

I spent years on a Mazak mill and lathe programming conversationally too before I taught myself Gcode. Go to cnccookbook.com and take the free Gcode course he has. It’ll get you stated in the right direction learning canned cycles and all that jazz
