Counterbores and Reamers

Good afternoon,
I need to set counterbores and reamers into my tool library. How do I do this so that it is accurate? Thanks…

I’ll have to try this out myself but I would think the tool type you would add is a “drill” or perhaps “end mill”. From there you should be able to define the geometry of your tool. In cam I would run it as a drill operation with no pecking.

Hope this helps and please let us know your progress.

Sincerely,

Thank you!!! Which brings me to another question… The counterbore is a .516 at .375 deep. The bore is very smooth. I am not sure how the guy did it before me but I am willing to bet he used a small endmill. Is that a possibility?

I use end mills all the time to make counterbores. If I have some that are in Torrance on diameter of a standard size I’ll just plung. If not I use a pocket routine to get it done pretty quick. This provides a real nice finish.

Awesome!!! I thought that was probably the way he did it. His counterbores are smooth and shiny. Like new money!! Lol!! Thank you for your help. That’s the way I’m going to do it. There’s a total of six of them.

Like @Rumplestiltskin said, definitely easier to use an endmill than trying to use a counterbore tool. There is even a “bore” command in Fusion that you can use for this. I typically leave about .010 and then do a contour for cleanup.

Sounds like you’re on the right track!
