Hey guys,
I’m new to the forums and I have never ran Incoloy 925 before. I have to drill and tap through holes on the parts required by our customer.
Is it better to tap the parts or use a threadmill?
All input is much appreciated.
Regards,
Pasc

It all depends what kind of fit is required & if you are using a manual or CNC milling machine. It also depends on the size of the hole & if it is a standard or special thread. We machined Inconel 718 all the time for rotating aircraft engine parts but none of our holes were tapped.
I am using a Haas VF-4 VMC milling machine with a rotary axis. The size of the holes are 0.203 (1/4-20 UNC) and 0.257 (5/16-18UNC); standard threads.
Thread mill. I never tap in hard material. If it would happen to break inside, you could fish it out compared to a tap. You can also dial in the thread fit and feel.
