What is your practice to calculate holding height. I mean the bottom side of your stock for 1st OP. I know its different from part to part, but i need some advices on how to. Im machining mostly innox.

In my mind it depends are you a 50 taper guy with 100 hp spindel ? Or 15 hp vf3 ? Are you pushing it hard ? I put most of the stainless I do in techni-grips on a 4th or 5th axis. Which hold it enough I can max out my 25 hp ycm’s
Just noticed you said first op. If you use tallon grips you only need to grab by .06 and they hold quite a lot of weight.
