I have been getting extra moves added into my tool paths the seem like a false tool change. I can edit them out in HSM but I would rather find a way to save that time on the CAM part of Inventor instead of having to do this for each part in HSM editor! Any tips or suggestions to eliminate these unnecessary moves?
I am guessing you are getting a Tool number in a line all by itself with no M06. This can be removed by addressing the values in your post processor by telling it to not call up fasttoolchange

Sorry Stephan I forgot to get a few photos and a video of it. I’m not getting a tool number without the M06 it’s pretty hard to explain so I will get a photo of whats it’s doing and post it up tomorrow afternoon after I get out of my meeting.
I’ve never had this happen with other programs that I’ve used until now. I really like this version of Inventor HSM except for these time consuming moves it adds to every program. Thanks for your help I’ll post that asap tomorrow.

It’s the moves in the upper right. As it finishes the facing it goes up out of the way then comes down and does the OD profile then goes up out of the way then does the final profile. I hope this helps. I’ve edited the post processing to eliminate those moves especially since it’s the same tool but I’m not sure why the inventor writes them that way. Thanks for any help!
Btw… This is for a Lathe not a mill.
After you selected what type of operation you are going to process (face, profile, etc.) in the radii tab you can specify your clearance values. You may want to select stock top for initial cuts and further into the turning processes you might select model top. I would play with the different values and selections and note where your tool starts, where it retracts to . I hope this answers your question.

The values I had in my box created the following tool path retract locations.

I have my clearance set for 0.200 above stock top and my retract set at 0.080 above model top usually. I get good tool paths until I go to another process with the same tool then I get the tool wanting to return to machine home. I’m waiting for a callback from Autodesk to see what we can figure out. Thanks for trying to help It’s very highly appreciated!!

When you select the tool and the next process is using the same tool, tell it to not go home.

It’s the same cam…
I do tell them not to go home but it does that anyway. Lol
